Using a Hot Tub, Sauna or Spa…
If you overheat your body core the baby is not able to reduce it’s own body core temperature. Some studies have shown that overheating in this way may cause brain damage and spinal malformations especially in the first trimester. Hot baths at home have not been shown to cause adverse effects in growing babies.
Dying your Hair…
It is recommended to avoid chemical hair products with ammonia. Let your hair dresser know you are pregnant and discuss product safety with them prior to treatment. There is insufficient medical evidence to suggest dying your hair in pregnancy is either safe or harmful in pregnancy.
Having Sex…
Sex during pregnancy is usually safe for both yourself and your baby. Where there is a history of premature birth, a placenta previa (very low lying placenta), cervical incompetence or your partner has a sexually transmitted infection, please talk to the midwife about this.
Travelling…
Always check with an airline about their rules for pregnant passengers; if you have had an uncomplicated pregnancy and there are no issues a midwife may give you a certificate to be used when travelling.
